Woodcraft Interiors
Harpreet Singh and Smily Sachdeva run Woodcraft Interiors, a Winnipeg custom cabinetry business. Their team helps customers explore practical designs, builds cabinetry in-house, and installs the finished work.
Custom Cabinetry Built Around the Way You Live
A cabinet can change how a room looks. For Harpreet Singh and Smily Sachdeva, the more interesting question is how it can change the way someone uses that room. Together, they run Woodcraft Interiors, a Winnipeg business that designs, builds, and installs custom cabinetry. Their projects range from kitchens and built-ins to larger renovations, with a team that takes the work from the first measurements through installation.
From a Cabinet Shop to Woodcraft Interiors
Harpreet came to Canada from India in 2019 to study computer science. After moving to Winnipeg, he took a job in a cabinet shop, first in production and then as a custom cabinet maker. The work caught his interest. He began taking on small side projects, such as moving a fridge cabinet or making a new cabinet for someone, and later installed kitchens on the side. As the requests grew, he decided to make cabinetry his full-time work.
Woodworking was familiar in his family, though he had not expected to build a business in the trade. Many of his relatives in India worked with wood; Harpreet’s own path took him through computing before he found the shop floor. That mix of practical experience and curiosity about how things are made is still apparent when he talks about materials, equipment, and the details of a cabinet.
Harpreet and Smily Build the Business Together
Smily brought a different background to Woodcraft Interiors. She studied accounting and worked in public accounting for about four years before joining the business full-time. Harpreet describes her as the person with the business mind who helped him take the step toward starting the company together. She now works alongside him on its growth and on the choices customers make during a project.
Their roles come together in the way they explain a job. Harpreet speaks about what a material is and how the shop will make it. Smily emphasizes helping customers see what the finished space could be, not just giving them a price. They want people to understand what they are choosing before production begins.
A Design You Can See Before It Is Built
The process often starts with Harpreet measuring the space. The team then uses design software to show how the cabinetry could fit. Smily says that back-and-forth matters: a drawing lets a customer consider moving the fridge or stove, or changing where storage and a pull-out garbage bin go, before the design is final. Harpreet may suggest changing an existing kitchen layout to gain counter space or make a corner cabinet easier to reach.
Customers can also visit the shop to see samples and discuss the materials and finishes they will receive. Harpreet wants them to ask questions about what goes into a cabinet and how it is made. For him, explaining the options is part of helping someone choose what fits both their space and their budget.
Made in the Shop, Installed by the Team
Woodcraft Interiors manufactures its cabinetry in-house and has its own installation crew. Harpreet says the team has nine people, including him and Smily. In the shop, CNC equipment cuts components, while an edge-banding machine helps produce the close-fitting joints he values. The business also takes care of installing the finished cabinets, rather than stopping when they leave the workshop.
The range of work has grown beyond individual cabinets. Harpreet points to a library with a sliding ladder and a full-house renovation in West St. Paul with custom features, including a built-in fridge. The team also works on kitchens, mudrooms, bars, and commercial millwork. Each project gives them a different layout to solve and a different set of needs to understand.
What Customers Notice in the Finished Room
Customer reviews often return to both the finished work and the experience of getting there. Olawale described a media wall with clean lines and seamless finishes, and appreciated the team’s suggestions during the project. Kiril said a kitchen renovation added more space and changed the room’s appearance. Preity wrote that the team listened to her ideas, suggested ways to improve the design and function, and treated her home with care. These are individual customer accounts, but together they show why the design conversation matters as much as the installation.
For Harpreet and Smily, customer service, quality, and keeping to the timeline they give a customer all matter. As Woodcraft Interiors takes on larger projects, they continue to build from those basics: show people their options, make the work in their Winnipeg shop, and install cabinetry designed for the people who will use it.
Customer Review
“They also made helpful suggestions along the way that really elevated the final look. The media wall has completely transformed my space - it's now the focal point of the living room, and everyone who visits can't stop complimenting it.
